Day 20: Music

20. Make a 10-song playlist of your favorite songs at the moment and share.

My music interests are pretty much Top 40 and pop, nothing earth-shatteringly indie. When I first put together this playlist in Spotify, it was 37 songs that I then had to chop down. If you asked me to do the same post in a week, I guarantee it would be different. Here we go, in order from #10 to #1. Gah, this is so hard!

#10: “Take Back the Night” by Justin Timberlake — This song has such a cool vibe to it. It’s modern and retro at the same time. The minute I hear it I have to suppress the urge to break out dancing. And it brings back awesome memories of JT’s VMA Vangaurd performance, which was incredible BTW. I put in a link for that too because hot damn, yes please.

#9: “Gone, Gone, Gone” by Phillip Phillips — Something about this song makes me think of Ross and Rachel from Friends. If I ever had the time to make a vid of their relationship, this would be their song.

#8: “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry and Juicy J — “Catchy” doesn’t even begin to describe this song. That beat is addictive.

#7: “Dead in the Water” by Ellie Goulding — So haunting, so beautiful. The lyrics are kind of creepy, but…peaceful? Is that morbid?

#6: “Preacher” by One Republic — It was so hard to pick just one song from One Republic’s new album, Native. I would have put the entire album on this list if I could have made it longer. “Counting Stars,” “I Lived,” and “Burning Bridges” are amazing too. First video here is a behind-the-scenes recording of “Preacher” and the second is the actual song.

#5: “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears — I’ve been obsessed with this song ever since it was performed on Glee. Original though, not the Glee version. It’s my happy place song, and would be the background music to the montage bit in the TV movie about my life.

#4: “Gorilla” by Bruno Mars — Let me preface this one with the fact that I hate the music video, but the song is great. I heard the song first on shuffle, and while it is a very sexy song, the video takes it to a skeevy place IMO. Now the video for “Treaure?” Witty, old school, and classic.

#3: “Cry” by Jay Sean — I found this song a few days ago just browsing through my Spotify and now I’m in love with it. I can’t wait to go for a long drive so I can scream-sing it.

#2: “Ain’t it Fun” by Paramore — This song is where I’m at right now, or at least where I’m afraid to be in a few months, Don’t go cryin’ to your momma, ‘cus you’re on your own in the real world. Also, a gospel choir pretty much guarantees I will love it (you can hear the choir better in a non-live version, trust me it’s worth it!)

#1: “Pompeii” by Bastille — This is a new one for me. Brittany introduced me to Bastille with “Laughter Lines,” but this one is totes my faves. It’s been my non-stop repeat song, but will probably be the first one faded out of this list too :(. For now, it’s infectious in the best way.

  1. You have an awesome taste in music! Tears for Fears, Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, JT (his voice is seriously beautiful live), OneRepublic?! Fabby stuff. And you mentioned Glee, which is probably my one true love. Yay similarities. (:
